Interior Door Installation Tips - Interior Doors Miami - Door InstallationMany people do not realize how important the interior doors are to a home. One of the easiest ways to transform your home in just a few days is to change out the interior doors. When you look around your house and notice the doors have become outdated, it is time to install some new ones.

Interior Door Options

During the 50s, 60s, and 70s, homes were often built with core flush doors. This was because there were no other choices available. Today, this is not the case as there are many other options for doors available. Just within the past five to ten years, the variety of doors has really grown, giving people a large selection from which to choose. There are doors with hollow cores, some with solid cores, different wood grains, patterns, and colors.

The first step is to measure the door. When measuring the door, it should be closed so the hinge pins can be seen. This allows you to measure the door at the widest point. Measure the width of the door at the top, in the middle, and at the bottom. Typically the measurement will be an even number such as 30 or 32 inches. It is important to make sure that your measurements are accurate to within an eighth of an inch. Measure the height of the door in the same manner. Record these numbers.

Next, note where the hinge of the door starts and stops. When you are measuring, you will not measure from hinge to hinge, but rather from the top of the door to the bottom of it.

Next you need to measure the lockset. First, measure the top of the lockset to the center. Next, measure from the edge of the door to the center of it. In almost every case the measurements will be either 2 ⅜ of an inch or 2 ¾ of an inch. This is the backset measurement.

Finally, you want to make sure that the door is square. Check the top and bottom corners of the door. Often the bottom is not square because it has been cut so that flooring can fit. If this is the case, a carpenter can help you figure out the measurement.
